Richly Scented Candles

Come sniff around…

Would you like to change the look of an entire room without breaking your budget?

Would you like to do this without even leaving your house?

Well, in case you didn’t know, window treatments are extremely expensive and would be considered a luxury for most people.  However if you can sew adequately, you can have your curtains for a pittance and get exactly the look you want at the same time.

The first step is to pick the style and color of the curtain that will look best in a given room.  You can find a huge variety of styles and some will always be more suitable for your needs than others.  In addition, it is important to understand that some styles of curtains are much more difficult to make than others.  Your sewing ability has to be a consideration when picking your curtain material.

Secondly, pick your fabric and ensure that you have taken accurate measurements.  Nothing would be worse than working diligently and then discovering your curtains don’t fit the window properly.  When measuring, make sure that your material is six inches longer than the space from the window sill to the curtain rod and that it is twice the width of the window itself.

The actual sewing of a basic curtain is very straight forward.  It boils down to sewing hems and then attaching special curtain rings.  For more complicated curtains, there will be difficult stitching and patterns to contend with. Using a computerized machine such as a Husqvarna Viking Sewing Machine will speed up the process. However sewing always boils down to a simple creed; follow the directions carefully of the pattern.

It is a waste to spend a lot of money on window treatments when you can make curtains yourself.  A basic knowledge of sewing is good enough to change and improve the look of any room in your house.

Think about trying to sew your own curtains before you head off to purchase them.  You will be glad you did.
